Detroit students selected for RYLA

Two Juniors from Detroit High School have been chosen to participate in the RYLA program. Callie Jaynes and Cole Hinson were nominated by their teachers, counselor and principal and then interviewed by the RLYA committee made up of local Rotary Club members. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an international program that was created but Rotary International to encourage strong leadership in youth. High school juniors are selected based on their leadership skills and potential in their schools and/or communities. Students chosen to attend RYLA camp where they work within teams to complete a variety of challenges that push them to think outside the box, stretch their imaginations, grow as individuals and a team, and recognize their own leadership abilities. The eight leadership traits that RYLA focus on are integrity, communication, planning, decision making, trust, teamwork, problem solving, and self-esteem.
