Detroit ISD Adopts Vision, Mission, and Goals
At their regular meeting on Monday, December 10, 2012, the Detroit ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2012-13 District Improvement Plan, which included a new vision statement, mission statement, and goals. The campus and districts site based committees have been meeting, surveying, and discussing the good attributes of our school district as well as the items that need to be improved upon. Teachers from each campus called and made personal contacts with students, parents, and co-workers to ask them about their feelings about the campuses. There was some very positive feedback as well as some suggestions for change. With that information and the knowledge about student achievement in DISD, the district site based committee, made up of parents, community members, and staff members, came up with a recommendation to the school board for vision, mission and goals of the district. The district committee studied what vision and mission statements are and how they can drive an organization toward improvement. The different groups brought their ideas for these statements and the entire committee approved the following statements to present to the school board for adoption. Detroit ISD Vision Statement: P.R.I.D.E. – Preparing Respectful Individuals for a Diverse Environment Detroit ISD Mission Statement: The mission of Detroit ISD is to engage students in educational experiences to develop responsible citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve their goals by providing a learning environment that instills, a sense of purpose and P.R.I.D.E. in our Detroit Eagle heritage. The committee also agreed upon the following goals for the district. 1. All students will have the opportunity to engage and learn in an environment that is safe, caring, drug-free, and conducive to learning. 2. Each student will be prepared for his/her next level of education. 3. All students will graduate from high school and be prepared for responsible citizenship and success in post-secondary education and/or productive employment. 4. Detroit ISD will increase parent and community involvement opportunities and encourage greater participation which will help increase student achievement and instill values, a sense of purpose, and PRIDE in the students.
