On the Road to Success…

September 11, 2008

Dear DES Families,

Our journey on the Road to Success is well underway as we explore the first six weeks.  Great things are already happening around DES.  Construction is well underway and more activity is happening everyday.  Pictures of the construction project can be seen on our website.

We also have had a lot of fun so far with our Here We Grow Character Education Program.  As a campus we are all talking about ways to be a good citizen and friend.  I bet many of you are learning our character education songs with your child.  These are a fun reminder of good traits and qualities.  I hope each family make it a point to attend an Eagle Football and/or Volleyball game this season.  We want all Detroit ISD students to have an opportunity to show Eagle Pride as that is part of being a good and supportive citizen in your community.  In addition, our players appreciate the support.

You will also be receiving information about a Community Safety Program initiated by Detroit ISD.  Each six weeks your family will receive helpful tips and information about making Detroit a safe community to live and work.

Grandparent’s Day was an awesome time for student’s to show off our school and daily routine to parents.  The Cafeteria Ladies provided a great lunch for our visitors.  I look forward to seeing many of you at open house in the coming weeks.  We will be gearing up for your next visit as we continue on the Road to Success.

As a reminder, of any of you have any questions about DES or anything at DISD, please give me a call.  Mr. Bradshaw or I will be glad to assist you in making this a great journey for your student.

In regards to our children,

Morris Lyon

Superintendent/Elementary Principal
