Detroit Elementary School
On the Road to Success…
Dear DES Families:
It is hard to believe we have already rolled into the 3rd six weeks of this school year. The Road to Success has been full of adventures for all of our students. We are going to be very busy this six weeks with holiday activities as well as our regular studies. Third, fourth, and fifth grades will soon be taking the first round of TAKS benchmark tests. These test are very important to helping determine the needs of each child. From these practice tests, teachers are able to focus on areas where students may need more help in being successful on the state mandated tests during the second semester. Please make sure your child is well rested and understands the importance of doing their best. The lower grades will continue monitoring student progress on basic literacy skills through a series of testing.
We encourage all of you to join us for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon in November. At DES we are thankful for caring parents and energetic students. Sharing in your child's education is truly a blessing for our faculty and staff. Please plan to attend the holiday programs in December. This is a great time to showcase student talent and encourage the arts for all Detroit students.
Construction on our new school is progressing nicely. It won't be long until the structure will start coming up. The children are really enjoying recess as they watch for changes in the site daily. You are welcome to look at the pictures of the progress in the main hall.
As the colder weather sets in, please dress your children with coats and remind them to wash their hands frequently. We have placed hand sanitizer dispensers in each classroom to hopefully help with the spread of germs. Let's try and do everything we can to keep Detroit Elementary well this season!
We truly believe this will be the best six weeks yet at DES.
Sincerely,
Morris Lyon
