Detroit Elementary School
On the Road to Success…
August 11, 2008
Dear DES Families,
The summer is flying by around DISD. I hope your family is enjoying the last month of vacation. I am excited to pass on some exciting news to you about the upcoming school year as we start our journey on the Road to Success at DES.
Mr. Withycombe has taken a position closer to his home and will not be returning this year. He wishes the best to all of you. However, I am very excited to announce I will be the elementary principal in addition to my duties as superintendent. Mr. Chris Bradshaw will be the Assistant Principal at the elementary school. I truly believe we can continue the excellence in educating your children and motivating them to reach their potential.
I am most excited about our Here We Grow on the Road to Success Character Education Program which will focus on values such as respect, responsibility, honor, and compassion to name a few. This program will allow students to follow a road map to being the best person they can be and a contributing citizen in our community.
The construction of the new elementary school is underway and you will see many changes around the campus throughout the upcoming school year. This $ 4.5 million dollar facility will enable Detroit students many additional opportunities with advanced technology and media capabilities and state of the art classrooms. We are also excited about having an area large enough to accommodate parents at assemblies. I will continue to keep you posted on the progress.
Your family is invited to come and visit with your child’s teacher, Mr. Bradshaw, and me on Thursday August 21 from 4:00 – 6:30PM. We will also have refreshments and door prize drawings for students and parents! This event will be the first in a series of Parent Activities for this school year.
The Road to Success at DES is going to be a great journey. The teachers and staff are committed to making this learning adventure the best yet for your child!
See you soon,
Morris Lyon Chris Bradshaw
Superintendent/Elementary Principal Assistant Principal
